High Performance Honda Builders Handbook (S-a Design)

Reviewed by B. Fisher on 2009-12-19  •  Reviews (18)  •  Read Full Review

This book is filled with great information for both a beginner and an advanced tuner/engine builder. Worth the buy for sure, not exactly up to date but seems like it was writen in 2000 or 2002. It doesn't have anything on i-Vtec and very old information on ecu tuning. Other than that it is still a great buy and very informitive.

Editorial Review :: The first edition of "Honda Builder's Handbook" Volume 1 has become the "Bible" of how-to books for high-performance sport compact and Honda enthusiasts alike, having sold more than 29,000 copies. This new revised edition brings the reader up to date with the latest tricks and techniques used to get maximum horsepower from Honda engines. This revision covers all the fundamentals of super-tuning a high-performance Honda/Acura engine and gives real world examples that prove the theory and show you how it works in practice. This edition contains advice from Honda performance experts, such as Oscar Jackson of Jackson Racing and Rob Smith of RPS. It also includes build-up information on a B20/B16 Hybrid, a 12-second turbo-charged GSR Civic, PAC Motrosports stroker motors, and a B20/B16Ai "Frankenstein" combination, and covers the build-up of an ultra-radical 825-horsepower turbocharged B18CI Honda Civic.

High Performance Honda Builder's Handbook, Volume II

I thought this book was loaded with useless information. Its mostly General engineering formulas and not necessarily and directly honda related. Lots of suspension, aerodynamics and brakes formulas which in street /strip car is pretty useless. There were no turbo or supercharged engine build up coverage (just nitrous). No parts were tested or dynoed like in volume 1. no drivetrain or transmissin issues were issued (considering one of honda's weak links are drivetrain). No stand-alone engine management solutions either. I learned some new stuff but not about honda's.

Editorial Review :: Following the very popular book of the same title, this work focuses primarily on suspension modifications, brake technology, nitrous oxide tuning, tire selection, aerodynamic body mods, fuels, and dragstrip/performance driving tips for these front-drive wonder cars. Illustrated with hundreds of photos.

At first I thought this book was a step by step handbook on how to get the most out of your honda, but actually it just tells you the products that are out there for your honda. I would suggest not buying it unless you don't know absolutely nothing about the products out there for your honda.

Editorial Review ::
This new edition of Motorbooks' best-selling guide to Honda and Acura performance now delivers more and better information than ever before. Whether you're headed to the street, drag strip, race track, or autocross course, this new edition provides the latest information from the world of Honda and Acura tuning. All the latest engine upgrades, electronic tuning, suspension tweaks, intake and exhaust systems and more are presented here in color for the first time. More than just a glorified parts catalog, this book tells the truth about which aftermarket parts work, which don't, and how to plan a Honda or Acura buildup. Revised and updated second edition.

Building Honda K-Series Engine Performance (Cartech)

The good: Dynos are great. The book is all about k-series motors, and thats exactly what i wanted. Well written.

The bad: there is very little analysis after the first 10 pages or so. for the price, i was expecting a little more input and opinion rather than leaving the reader to come up to their own conclusions. while dynos are good, the power differences are vast from motor to motor. The author never seems to address how gains would have possibly been different if the modification were performed on a different motor.

Its great for what it is. The dynos show you what is good and what is not. i would recommend thoroughly reading posts in a honda forum over this book though. the info is not that much different.

Editorial Review ::
The all-new K-series engines are now found in all Honda and Acura performance models, and are also becoming the engine swap of choice. In Building Honda K-Series Engine Performance, author Richard Holdener gives you a detailed description of the K-series engines, followed by a put up or shut up account of all kinds of aftermarket performance parts. Holdener uses over 400 color photos and dyno graphs to help you separate the advertising hype from the real K-series performance. You'll find chapters detailing upgrades to the intake, exhaust, cylinder heads, camshafts, and short block, as well as on how to add turbochargers, superchargers, and nitrous oxide. Don't spend your hard-earned cash figuring out what works and what doesn't--pick up Building Honda K-Series Engine Performance and know for sure.
