When I got my EVO VIII, I did not know anything about 4G engines. I am the kind of person that does not mind using a mechanic but also likes to do work on their own car whenever possible. This book nicely bridges that gap. The main technical author is Robert Garcia from Road Race Engineering (RRE) ([...]). When I got my EVO, some people told me these were the 4G gurus since the 90s and the DSM 4G cars. Since then, I do not let anyone else do work on my car. RRE are the EVO/DSM gods in So. Cal. and this book exemplifies this fact. Also, the book is priced where you don't really have an excuse to NOT have it if you have a 4G engine!! The book covers everything from basic bolt ons, to swaps to full on engine building. If you are planning a project, or if you just want to understand what that thing is under the hood of your EVO or DSM with a 4G engine, this book is for you.

It's not uncommon to find one of these four-cylinder, iron-block, aluminum-headed, 2-liter turbocharged monsters making more than 1,000 horsepower with the right modifications and tuning well above the 200-300 hp produced in the factory-made engines. As the author of this book, I wanted to take a moment to respond to "Ed M." about the lack of information about the Dodge-sourced engine in non-turbo 2G DSMs. First, I do mention the 420A, and point out that Hahn Racecraft offers a turbo kit for it. It's a good kit, and if you're interested in turbocharging that particular engine, I highly recommend it. However, that is about the extent of the performance aftermarket for that particular powerplant, and as I explain in the book, for the price of the 420A turbo kit and installation, you could have sold your non-turbo Eclipse and purchased a turbo version which, even stock, offers as much power as the Stage 1 version of the HRC setup. I also wanted to point out a correction in my bio above: I have not been the editor of Honda Tuning for about five years, and wasn't even working for that magazine when the book was published.
