G-Box Performance Module for 2006-2009 Porsche Cayman

Editorial Review :: The G-Box functions by intercepting sensor outputs, modifying them, and outputting them to the vehicle's onboard computer. The G-Box is compatible with most popular performance upgrades such as aftermarket intake and exhaust systems, low boost forced induction systems, lightened and/or underdrive pulley kits, grounding kits, and many others. The G-Box enhances performance in multiple ways. First, it modifies signals being read by the ECU, causing an adjustment to the fuel curve, which is what creates the increase in horsepower and torque, as well as improves throttle response and shift speed. When the ECU sees these modified signals it provides a different set of fuel and ignition maps than it would under factory operating conditions. A second feature of the G-Box is it's "High-Heat Signal Correction." In short, when the engine compartment heats up, some sensors that relay pertinent fuel curve contingent information to the ECU begin to lose accuracy due to heat absorption into the sensor. The ECU then reads these incorrect signals, and leans out, or otherwise incorrectly alters the fuel curve, which hampers performance. These errors cannot be corrected from within the ECU, there must be an independent unit to correct these errors. The G-Box is designed to compensate for these signal errors. Additionally, our easy to follow instructions will allow you to get your module installed in about 15 minutes. Porsche High-Performance Driving Handbook

Reviewed by ---- on 2009-12-12  •  Reviews (22)  •  Read Full Review

The book is broken down to many small chapters by subject (e.g. equipment, tires, accelerating, cornering, etc..) which is a good way to present. Unfortunately beyond the organization the book mostly fails as a driving handbook and is not interesting to read.

Every chapter begins with a story from his driving career that often seems unnecessary and obvious and not always interesting. At points it reads more like an autobiography than a reference manual. The 173 pages pages in the book are filled with (nice) pictures but the pictures don't add anything to the subject and come across as page fillers.

There's very little theory or technical discussion of driving and it's really a coffee table book with neat pictures. Also the car set-up section is entirely irrelevant to most readers (entry level track day-ers and racers) as it gives very little advice in either theory or execution.

There are much better books in general driving categories ("Driving Secrets", "Going Faster", "Drive to Win", "Winning: A Race Driver's Handbook").

Editorial Review ::

It’s been more than a decade since the first Porsche High Performance Driving Handbook set the standard for getting the most out of a Porsche. If driving techniques haven’t changed since then, technology definitely has. This book, by the world’s foremost expert, takes that new technology into account as it gives readers the latest information on how to drive a Porsche to its limit.

Once upon a time, the Can Am and Trans Am race series changed their rules because Vic Elford and his Porsches were winning too often. Here Quick Vic shares his insights into ride control systems, new tire compounds, and Tiptronic and Direct-Shift Gearbox transmissions, all of which have transformed the experience--and the challenge--of driving a Porsche.

As he discusses recent models, ranging from new generations of the 911 to the whole-cloth inventions of the Boxster, Cayenne, Cayman S and Carrera GT, modern images and historical photos immerse the reader in both the history and the evolving technology that Vic Elford knows like no one else.

Great Cars: Porsche

Great history. I was hoping the series would focus more on the cars themselves, rather than on the historical background and the manufacturers of the cars. Rarely do they even play recordings of the cars' exhaust notes.

I would say that this set is worth the purchase. But just know that this is no Top Gear or Fifth Gear. This is a historical documentary.

Porsche - The Incredible Porsche 911

Don't let the 996 on the cover fool you; this video was produced in 1994. Good historical footage of 356 and air-cooled 911s through the 993. Brief mention of 930s and 959, although the latter only in terms of its rally success. Overall, a superficial examination of the 356 and 911 (about equal run time allotted to each).

Editorial Review :: A documentary from the History Channel telling the story and showing the pictures of the Porsche 911 from its inception to the present version.
